The Marines, who were quartered in Sha- mean, natrolled the Concession throughout the strike from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. they guarded the British bridge night

H.M.8. and day, and they performed various other services. "Robin' and H.M.8. "Moorhen" in turn protected the wharves of the Asiatic Petroleum Company and of Messrs. Butterfield and Swire, situated some way down the back reach. Captain Williams, a highly efficient officer, in addition to his regular duties, rendered particularly valuable service by his supervision of and insistence on sanitary measures.
